is an utterly fantastic book.
That being said, I think the ending is a cop-out. Oh, the reason Charlie is so weird is because his aunt sexually assaulted him when he was young.
Ummm… what?
The aunt that he loved more than anything in the world, the aunt who bought him presents, the aunt that took care of him?
I’m sorry, that doesn’t make sense to me.
The whole time reading it, I was sure Charlie was slightly autistic. He had all the symptoms. But instead, we find out he was raped by a close family member who later died, and he’s magically cured.
No. Wrong. That’s not how it should work. It would have been such a better ending for me if he turned about to be autistic. It’s disturbing and unsettling to think that his aunt raped him. I hate that. I hate the ending.
Now, I am incredibly excited for the movie, and besides that, the book is genius.
